Keane is an English rock band that formed in 1995 in Battle, East Sussex. The band members met while attending Tonbridge School. The current lineup consists of Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes, and Jesse Quin. The band's original guitarist, Dominic Scott, left in 2001. Keane achieved international success with their debut album, Hopes and Fears, which topped the UK chart and won the 2005 Brit Award for Best British Album. Their second album, Under the Iron Sea, also topped the UK chart and debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200. Keane's third album, Perfect Symmetry, was released in October 2008, followed by their EP Night Train in May 2010. Their fourth studio album, Strangeland, was released in May 2012 and peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart. The band took a hiatus after the release of their compilation album, The Best of Keane, in 2013. They returned with new music in 2019, announcing their fifth studio album titled Cause and Effect and releasing the lead single "The Way I Feel". Keane is known for using keyboards as the lead instrument instead of guitar, which sets them apart from most other rock bands. They have sold over 13 million records worldwide.
