James Blunt is an English singer, songwriter, and musician who previously served as a reconnaissance officer in the British Army's Life Guards regiment. During the 1999 Kosovo War, he served under NATO. He gained worldwide recognition in 2004 with the release of his debut album Back to Bedlam, which sold over 11 million copies worldwide and topped the UK Albums Chart. The album's singles "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover" achieved global success, with "You're Beautiful" reaching number one in several countries. Back to Bedlam was the best-selling album of the 2000s in the UK and is one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. Blunt has sold over 20 million records worldwide and has received numerous awards, including two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and two Ivor Novello Awards. He has also been nominated for five Grammy Awards and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music in 2016 from the University of Bristol.
