Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in New York City. Her love for music started at an early age, and by the time she was just 13, she had already written her first piano ballad and started performing at open mic nights. When she was 17, she was accepted into NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and studied music. To focus more on her music career, she later withdrew from the program but formed a band called the SGBand with her friends.
After a few years, her talent was noticed by a representative, and she was signed on to a record company. Her debut album, The Fame, was an international success, reaching number one in Germany, Canada, and Ireland among others, with the single, “Poker Face”, being recognized as the world’s best-selling single for 2009. This paved the way for many more successes down the line.
